I dunno if anyone else bothered to do this, but I did since the prospect of cleaning paint and muck out of the 14-way area didn't really appeal to me.
First, carefully remove the two little tabs off of the grates that came with your iR3. The rest is simple: Insert the solid screens BEHIND the grates (i used a couple drops of krazy glue to attach them), and reinsert the entire peice back into the 14-way area. Now your 14-way is sealed, but you still have the cool look of the grates.
As far as the sight rail grate, thats even easier. Just put the two peices in together and reinsert the circlips. No more worring about getting paint inside your iR3!
