View Full Version : Why a magnetic trigger?

I've been seeing a lot of posts about adding a rare earth magnet to add resistance to your trigger pull. It's a really cool mod and I have even bought the magnets and considered doing it, but then I thought: Why do I want a harder trigger pull?!
It seems to me this would only slow you down and I really like the trigger as it is.
I must be missing something, 'cause I know nobody here is interested in shooting slower. If you were you'd be in an autococker forum.
Help me understand so I can get started on this really cool mod.
Thanks

it makes it easier to pull!

How can it make it easier to pull when you are adding resistance?
If you remove the leaf spring you could tune it for an easier pull, but I'm not willing to get into that.

on the pull when u pull tou dont feel anuthing different hardky, but on the return the magnet propels the trigger to normal position fsater so you can pull it again quicker, reducing the possibility of skipping, im not sute if thats right, but thats the basic "idea" i got fron a magnectic trig thread..sorry id im typing sloppy, i just replaced my JT lense (JT owners know what im talking bout!)

Yeah, My fingers are still hurting from changing my lense last night:)
That makes sense, thank you.

helps get rid of bounce in the trigger too..
you can't het rid of the leaf spring...the end of it is what breaks the beam...but you don't need to, cus the leaf spring is minimal resistance anyway...you trigger does have to return, can't just flop in the wind right
after doing trigger jobs on two speeds i noted that no matter how you positioned the triggers, the lack of resistance from the leaf spring made it nearly impossible to eliminate all instances of trigger bounce.
a good trigger job will eliminate just about all of the bounce potential but if you hold it just so....it'll bounce a couple times. nothing that would be reguarded as illegal.
just the physics of the gun and your ability to hold the trigger in that fraction of a millimeter where the beam breaks....gun fires you hold steady and wala it fires again. the speeds miniscule amount of resistance makes it prone to bouncability.
magnets are better than springs for the job cus the resistance increases and decreases more so than springs.
making the trigger lighter at the begining than the end giving it more of a trampoline effect on the snap back. jike JT said,
faster it comes back, faster you can pull it again.

see the trick isn't to not have bounce, but to have it occor when ur hitting higher speeds
<<after doing trigger jobs on two speeds i noted that no matter how you positioned the triggers, the lack of resistance from the leaf spring made it nearly impossible to eliminate all instances of trigger bounce. >>
My speed trigger is pretty stiff. It is as stiff as all the other angels came stock and most people made lighter. It has gotten a little lighter from use, but it is stiffer then I would like. I shoot it so fast though that I don't care. I also don't have any bounce at all and a super short pull. Much shorter then my IR3 was. Maybe WDP made the trigger stiffer on purpose.
I don't know what is means when all the lights are on when you are shooting, but I assume that is fairly fast.

Its not really an updgrade, but just another comfort deal. Try to find someone with a magnetic trigger and try it out.

make sure its on an angel tho, cus ive noticed imp/cocker magnetic triggers feel different..dont exactly get why but yea...

:dito: Also, the I get a lot of trigger bounce on my speed.

i don't think cockers are slow at all and if you do think about the fact that it is semi-auto but with the e-blade or any other GOOD electro grip these things can diffenantly rip
I think the e-blade is limited to 16 a sec. Cockers sound like they are shooting a lot faster then they really are.

cockers can be just as fast as angels bottom line, its just about parts and ur hopper. but about the trigger pull, could u also do one where u pulll apart the magnets for a snappy feel? i like it that way.

yea, im pretty sure u could.. cockers cant shoot as fast as angels, all the mass moving slows the gun down, thats why blades only go 15-16 bps MAX.
I just installed a magnetic trigger on my rubber band gun, nice ehh?

race cockers have gone up to 25 bps. and eblades can go as fast as ur settings are. i know i used to have one set easily around 19 or so.

um no, they have cycled that fast but cannot shoot that fast.....it has been stated by many cocker techs that given the fact that the bolt has to open completely and then close again, cocker can only go 16 MAX when actually shooting. That 25 cycles is with the bolt not opening and closing all the way, and you can only shorten the movements of the guns neumatics so much. Angel neumatics have been designed to use as short a movment as possible, thus increasing the possible shooting rate. A cocker is not designed in a way that allows a whole lot of speed. Even with lightened block and bolt and every timing aspect tweaked and shortened as much as possible, a cocker will only go about 16 bps. Why do you think raceframes come with softeware that allows you to mess with every timing aspect of the gun (like 12 different settings or something). And if you take a stock cocker and just put on an eblade or raceframe you will be lucky if you get 14. Yes the cocker is a sweet @$$ gun (I have one and have thought about eblading it), the angel is still capable of shooting much faster, and is also much more reliable....thus, I have a SPEED!!! Look into this a bit more and you will find that I am right.....nothing but facts here. Racegun themself stated the 16 bps max fact, I did not make that up. It is in one of the pigtv nppl coverage videos on warpig from one of the past seasons.

Since you used the word easy you are guessing.
A closed bolt gun isn't anywhere near as fast as a open bolt gun. The e-blade is slow compared to the speed angel. They sound like they are shooting twice as fast as there are.

i know the cocker is not as fast but im saying it can go faster then 16 bps. free flow just recently did a vid of 20 bps with a halo. and don't think im some angel hating fool. i own a speed and love it. im just tryin to defend cockers a little bit.

Where can I buy a magnetic trigger for my speed?

you can get the magnets at radio shack for like 2.00....
there are several possible mounting options on the speed

i put the magnet on my speed and it rocks nice feel and it seems i can walk it much faster ,and on to the race grip i have one on my 02 dye reflex cocker and it rips i have it set to 22 bps can't confirm that it shoots that fast but it rips that's all i know
and it is for sale too just wanted to throw that in there lol
aight peace

:dito: I was watching on pigtv and in one of the 2001 coverages a guy is showing a black magic with a raceframe and hes a pro tech, he said that cockers can shoot a max of 16bps or so. He didnt say the exactly he said something like this "Let's say you want to cycle at 18bps, even though cockers can't shoot that fast...." He was a pro cokcer tech too. Plus there are tons of moving parts on a cocker, thats why they are a little slow (compared to an angel). A guy on this sight made and angel into closed bolt. It's sick. Ill try to get a link to the thread. He was shooting 20+bps.

That is awesome because the kid is making the best out of what he can afford. Not everyone can afford and angel so having a kid put a magnetic trigger on his Piranha is cool, cause hes upgrading his marker the best he can. So what if piranhas suck? Definately not the point I was making. Nice attitude you have there.

cockers can go faster than 16 bps, since 2001, there have been many evolutions in cocker tuning. Faster rams, quick exhaust valves, lower moving mass ect.
go to www.4freeflow.com then go to home--->media downloads--->20 bps without eye video.
theres a nice video of a raced freeflow.
I KNOW my racegun is faster than 16 bps. Angels are faster because they are open bolt guns, but 16 bps is not the limit for cockers.

You can't actually tell if hes really shotting 20bps in that video though......He could be shooting 16 and no one could tell the difference....

i will only believe it when i see him in person shooting over an accurate chrono that can tell bps.
