just as much a tradition as getting your crow tacked on or your warfare pin tacked on........all gone now :cryer: it's really hard to find someone willing to accept tradition without crying like a baby, I had my Dolphins tacked by a few guys in my division, didn't get to get dunked in ice cold sea water because the COB would've known that, but tacking the fish was okay so long as we kept it quiet.

There was nothing like the "old style" of crossings. I miss those days. I remember the torture that I took and then gave it back 10 fold. No more crossings for me, I'm stuck up in the north east, but it was fun while it lasted! Golden Shellback circa 1991

When you cross the equator you become a shell back, when you cross it going back the other way you become a Golden Shellback. It's a tradition worldwide amongst sailors. It's not specific to the US Navy, although in the Navy it usually involves a fairly disgusting initiation ceremony.

I got my Crow tacked on a month or two back. The ceremonies this time are so weak. I'm actually taking a break because we can't do ANYthing to these disgusting wogs. Hell, the MA's are walking around telling us not to throw water on em!!!???
It was weak went I went through it, but at least there was food and other stuff involved.

Mooshoo....there's a lot more than just some water being thrown on pollywogs.....it's a right of passage ceremony, an initiation....it's one of those things that you just don't understand until you're part of it....
